PARTS A, B, C and D - WHAT DO THEY COST?

Part A - Hospital Insurances

You usually don't pay a monthly premium for Part A coverage if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes while working for a certain amount of time.  This is sometimes called premium-free Part A (if you worked 40 quarters).  If you aren't eligible for premium-free Part A, you may be able to buy Part A.

My suggestion to you - Ask Social Security Administration for details regarding YOUR eligibility and costs.  You can do this in person at a local Social Security office or by telephone.  (Additional information can be found in the reference section.)

Part B - Medicare Insurance

The standard monthly Part B premium amount in 2019 is $135.50 (standard being defined by your income 2 years prior).  For additional information Click the box below and scroll down to Part B costs and in the Premium area, click "Who pays a higher Part B premium because of income?"

Part C - Medicare Advantage

The costs for Medicare Advantage plans will vary depending upon the plan offered by the service area which you live.  These plans may offer different:

  • monthly premiums
  • benefits
  • co-pays or co-insurance
  • providers
  • formularies
  • additional benefits

Part D - Prescription Drugs

Stand Alone Prescription Drug plans are offered by the service area where you reside.  These plans are offered by  multiple insurance carriers and may vary in monthly premium cost, drug cost and formularies.

* If you are paying a higher Part B premium due to your income, you will also pay a additional premium for Part D based on your income.  Click the box below and scroll down to Part D costs and in the Premium area, click "Who pays a higher Part D premium because of income?"
