This is an election period you use when you first enroll in Original Medicare. The "initial" indicates your opportunity to begin your start your Part A and /or Part B based on your age, your health or loss of an employer health plan.
This is the period every year you have the opportunity to change your current plan for another plan with an effective date of January 1st of the upcoming year. Medicare may make changes to benefits which all insurance carriers need to modify their plans accordingly and the carriers also may change extra benefits. This information is available to the public on October 1st each year.
Plan changes apply to Medicare Advantage plans and Prescription Drug plans. Also changing from a Medicare Supplement plan and Prescription Drug plan to a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplement plan (underwriting may be needed) and to be compliant add a Prescription Drug plan.
This period is available limited to particular changes:
· Medicare Advantage (with or without drug coverage) to another Medicare Advantage (with or without drug coverage)
· Drop a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare
The time for special events, such as moving, losing group health insurance, qualifying for or losing financial assistance, residing in an institution and certain chronic conditions. Please check with me for additional information.
If you did not sign up for Part A and/or Part B during your Initial Enrollment Period, you can sign up between January 1st and March 31st, your coverage starts the first day of the month after you sign up.
